Biografi

Magnus Wessén har en Bergsingenjörsexamen från KTH, Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan, och la fram sin doktorsavhandling inom "Mikrostrukturer och egenskaper hos segjärn" vid KTH, under 1997. Därefter har han haft en deltidstjänst som Universitetslektor vid Tekniska Högskolan i Jönköping, Avd. Material- och tillverkningsteknik - Gjutning. Parallellt med det akademiska arbetet har han efter doktorsexamen drivit egna företag inom gjuteriområdet; Foundrysoft AB (1997-2007) och RheoMetal AB (2006 - nuvarande).

De forskningsområden som täckts in under åren innefattar gjutjärn, aluminiumlegeringar såväl som magesiumlegeringar; oftast med ett starkt fokus på modellering och simulering. Idag ägnar han den största delen av sin tid åt reogjutning av lättmetallegeringar; d.v.s. gjutning av metaller i ett halvstelnat tillstånd, med ett speciell fokus på RheoMetal processen, som patenterades av honom och kollegan Haiping Cao under 2006.

Magnus Wessén har publicerat ett 20-tal arbeten i tidskrifter och vid vetenskapliga konferenser, och dessutom ett flertal populärvetenskapliga artiklar inom gjutningsområdet. Han finns med i redaktionsstyrelsen för Journal of Materials Processing Technology och granskar ofta artiklar till konferenser som till exempel SPCI - International Symposium of Science and Processing of Cast Iron and S2P - International Conference on Semi-Solid Processing of Alloys and Composites.
