Passport & Visa
All students should have a valid passport for the period of their study in Jönköping.

Residence Permit for study (study permit) required
Citizens of non-EU countries

- Bachelor or Master programme
- Pathway Intensive English Campus course (Summer) + bachelor or master programme
- Pathway Year or Pathway Semester
- Exchange student
Work permit
Admitted students with a residence permit for study are allowed to work in Sweden dureing their period of study. No additional work permit is required. However, be aware that it may be difficult to find a part-time job, especially if you do not speak Swedish. Please note that university studies are full-time and may be difficult to combine with work and that the Migration Agency has requirements for registration per semester and progress in the studies in order to grant an extension of a study permit.
Swiss citizens
Students with a Swiss citizenship need to apply for a residence permit with the local immigration authorities after their arrival in Sweden. More information can be found on the website for Residence permit for Swiss citizens.
Residence Permit not required
EU/EEA Citizens
If you are a citizen of an EU/EEA country you have the right to reside in Sweden. The term “right to reside" means that an EU/EEA citizen is permitted to stay in Sweden for more than three months without a residence permit. Citizens of Nordic countries
Citizens from Nordic countries do not need a visa or residence permit to study in Sweden. More information can be found on the Migration Agency website for Nordic citizens living in Sweden.
Summer course (and other short term studies)
If your total period of stay in Sweden is less than three months, you should not apply for a residence permit, but should instead apply for an entry visa. Citizens of some countries may stay in Sweden for up to three months without a residence permit or visa. During this period, it is permitted to study.
