Since the beginning of the 1970s, research at the Jönköping University School of Health and Welfare has addressed the issues of social service, health and hospital care in regular or separate residential settings for older adults, the choices in health care offered to older adults, the effects of funding cutbacks, family caregivers and support for family caregivers, and aspects of interfacing and participation, including the participation of older adults in social planning in varied local settings. International studies compare the social policy regulating health care and aging in terms of varied welfare contexts. Some studies have touched upon such issues as loneliness and spirituality. Research is often in cooperation with central and local authorities and organizations.
