AFAIR (Ambidexterity, Flows and AI for Competitive Responsiveness) is Jönköping University’s multidisciplinary research project with focus on applied artificial intelligence (AI) which is conducted in collaboration with several industrial partners.

The AFAIR research team will investigate how AI can streamline flows and customer offers. In addition to that they will explore how organisations handle technical development and how they on a strategic level can implement and use AI-based tools.

Responsiveness refers to a company’s ability to follow the demands and changes of the market in a competitive way.

- A consistent theme in this project is to develop the participating companies’ ability to apply data driven and algorithm-based approaches for business development, says Joakim Wikner, professor in logistics at the School of Engineering and project manager for AFAIR.

Within the project data driven algorithms and methods based on machine learning will be developed. These solutions ought to work as decision support, alternatively make decisions automatically, and therefore their ability to discuss and motivate their recommendations or decisions is an important component.

Brain and AI

Key industrial partners in AFAIR are: Combitech, Fagerhults belysning, Husqvarna, Saab Training Systems and Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery, and more companies will affiliate later.

SPARK and the research team hope to start the first project within AFAIR during the first quarter of 2021.
