Media and Communication Science is a three-year programme for students who want to work with communication in professional role. During the programme, the students procure comprehensive knowledge – both theoretical and practical – in media and communication, as well as continuously being offered new opportunities to deepen their knowledge and specialise in their own interests.

The programme places special emphasis on sustainability – with a focus on the connection between communication and ecological, social and economic sustainability – and has the ambition to keep the courses up to date with the ever-changing media landscape.

Content

During the first year, all students read courses within the main field Media and Communication Science, to later be divided into four different specialisations of their choice: Market Communication, Media Production, Strategic Communication, and Global Communication.

All courses in Global Communication are conducted in English and you will study alongside international students.

Exchange studies

In the 4th semester, the students have the opportunity to study one semester abroad at one of Jönköping University’s partner universities. The purpose is for the students to be able to broaden or deepen their knowledge in media and communication science.

Some courses in the programme are conducted in English and offered to exchange students. For more information about the courses we offer for incoming students, please visit the International Office:

Internship

The programme works closely with the industry and several courses will involve guest speakers working in the field of communication. The programme ends with a twelve-week internship that qualifies for 15 credits. The ambition of the course is to allow students to practice the theoretical knowledge and skills they have acquired. At the same time, they can establish contacts and networks for the future. Many of our students find work right after graduation.

Degree

The programme leads to a Bachelor of Science with a specialisation in Media and Communication Science (180 credits).

Career prospects

The education gives the students a strategic approach that will be useful in different fields within communication. The students will acquire theoretical knowledge that is well-rooted in practice, which makes them appealing for a wide range of positions within the industry.

Graduated students from the programme have become Communication Managers, Social Media Managers, Project Managers, Digital Strategists, Journalists, Event Managers, Website Coordinators, PR Consultants, Marketing Managers and Copywriters.
